The Backgammon Variant: Acey-Deucey

A variation of the backgammon game contains a different starting position, as well as opening and end game rules, and makes use also of a doubling cube; this variation is known as Acey-Deucey. Although the components of this backgammon variant is similar to that of backgammon, which means the same boards, amount of pieces and a dice, the start of the game varies in such a way that no players checkers are placed on the board.

The start of the game is different from backgammon as we mentioned earlier, and the game play should pass back and forth as every player starts to roll both dice. No pieces may be taken away by any player until such time that both of the dive show the same number or what we call "doubles", or if a dice roll of a one and a two is received. The player that rolls doubles can move in totality, a number of four times, wherein each move traverses the number of spaces which is the same number as the amount rolled. And movement from the starting position is counted as one space.

Usually, any piece can be legally moved in the original backgammon game, however, in acey-deucey, no pieces on the board should be moved until such time that all the pieces that belong to a particular player has been moved away from the beginning position. After the doubles rolls, yet another turn is then taken by a player. When he rolls acey-deucey, he may then take a piece and a space, and then a piece and two spaces, and thereafter, an added four more moves of a number that is chosen by the said player.

The differences between Acey-Deucey and original Backgammon is that when rolling doubles or when rolling acey-deucey, a player has to then roll and move once more. Usually, dice roll of acey-deucey would count as 1-2, wherein the doubles are the choice of the player. When one reaches his home board, that particular piece will not be moved once more until such time that all the rest of the pieces have reached the home, and exact rolls are needed in order to bear off.

There are many variations from the Acey-Deucey rules in order to make the game a lot more restrictive to the players, yet it is still a fun game to play which certainly bears its roots from the original backgammon game.
